From the Grade 8 Coordinator

As the summer sun shines down on our small town in Tasmania, our young people are gearing up for a season of freedom and fun. While the holidays bring excitement, it's important for our teens to stay safe and make positive choices that will shape their summer experiences. On the other side we want to see all their happy faces brighten up our hallways for learning and sharing their summer experiences.

Stay Informed and Plan Together

Before diving into summer activities, it's crucial to stay informed about local events, safety guidelines, and any travel restrictions. Planning together can help ensure that everyone is on the same page and that the summer is filled with enjoyable experiences.

Make Responsible Choices Together

As teens navigate socialising and independence during the summer, it's important for them to make responsible choices. Open discussions about alcohol, drugs and risky behaviours can help our young people make informed decisions that support their well-being and respect our community values.

Respect Our Community and Environment

Our town's environment is part of what makes it special. Encourage respect in our community by being mindful of those around us, keeping public spaces clean and respecting nature. Engaging in community clean-up efforts or volunteering can also foster a sense of pride and connection to our community.

Prioritize Mental Health and Well-being

Encourage teens to prioritise their mental health by taking breaks from social activities and screen time, practicing self-care by taking walks outside and being mindful. If things aren’t going well, knowing it is ok to seek support if needed by contacting your GP or accessing one of the many youth support websites.

Have Fun and Make Memories

Above all, encourage our young people to have fun and make the most of their summer by getting out and about in its wonderful natural environment. Encourage them to organise an event, explore nearby attractions, or simply enjoy the company of friends, this is a time to create cherished memories and celebrate the very best of our community.

As the sun sets on 2023, I pass one final note of appreciation to our students and families for their support throughout the year. I wish you all the best and encourage all to embrace the unique opportunities our community offers so that our young people can have a safe, fulfilling, and memorable summer that reflects the values of our close-knit community.

Kindest regards,
