Hello and welcome to Term 4 of 2022. What a busy year we’ve been having! It seems like not so long ago our new year 7 students were starting their very first day at Huonville High School. Now we are in the last term of the school year and our Year 7s are so close to being year 8s. The students have grown, not only intelligently, but also in height. As we come to the last term, please remember that your child attending school is very important. Each day at school counts and we love being able to see your child each day. An exciting opportunity has come up for our year 7s: next year we will be lucky enough to have some of our students represent our grade for leadership for the school. Students can apply and become the voice of our grade.
English
In English this term the students are studying the film The Little Prince. Students are analysing the different cinematic techniques that influence an audience and how different narrative structures can change the audiences' connection to characters. Later in the term, students will be constructing their own narratives with intersecting storylines and elements from The Little Prince. The students have been enjoying the beginning of the unit, learning to analyse shorter films such as The Birds and Dug’s Adventure (Pixar short films). I look forward to sharing the students' creative writing in coming weeks!

Science
In week 3 some of our Grade 7 students attended the Marine Discovery Centre at Woodbridge to broaden their skills and knowledge within the Biology field. Students looked at the classification of marine species and their ecosystems. Students had an opportunity to go on a research boat and travel across the Channel, collecting organisms and water data. Fun is to be had! Unfortunately, bad weather forced the Centre to cancel one of the days, but the rest of the Grade 7 students will get the opportunity to participate on Thursday, 10th November.

History
The Year 7s have been hanging around the ancient world so far this year and lately they’ve witnessed the rise of one of the world’s greatest superpowers, Rome. Students have learnt about Romulus and Remus, twin brothers discarded by the Tiber River by a jealous uncle, only to be saved by a she-wolf and then found and raised by a shepherd and his wife. Students have also learned about the exploits of Rome’s first boogeyman, Hannibal (not the cannibal), a man who nearly brought the Romans to the brink of destruction. Students have considered and compared sources to build a character assessment of Hannibal. Currently the Y7s are examining Roman social groups – they used epigraphical evidence from tombstones to piece together the role of women in Roman society.
